Objective To investigate the sleep-related problems in children with autism. Methods The Children’s Sleep Habits Question-aire (CSHQ) was used to investigate 32 children aged 2.5-5 years with autism and 37 healthy children attended kindergarten. Results The total amount of sleep in children aged 2.5-3 years with autism was (10.91 ± 1.03) h, which was significantly lower than that of normal children (11.83 ± 0.27) h (P <0.05) The total amount of sleep disorder patients was (9.71 ± 0.27) h, which was significantly lower than that of the normal children (10.39 ± 1.55) h in the same age group (P <0.05). In the children’s sleep habits questionnaire, the total score of children with autism of 2.5-3 years old was (48.00 ± 1.79) and that of normal children was (47.05 ± 6.15), the difference was not statistically significant (P> 0.05) The total score of autistic children with 5 years old was (47.86 ± 3.34), while the normal children was (45.31 ± 6.56). There was no significant difference between the two groups (P> 0.05). There were significant differences among the 8 sleep factor scores (P <0.05) in 3 ~ 5 years old autism group and 3 ~ 5 years old autism group There were significant differences in normal sleep latency, sleep duration, night awakening and daytime sleepiness (P <0.05). Conclusion Compared with normal children of the same age, the total amount of sleep in children aged 2.5-3 years and 3 to 5 years old with autism decreased compared with that of normal children in many sleep problems such as persistent sleep, night awake, daytime sleepiness and so on .
