我亲爱的朋友们:我十分高兴看到在我面前的你们——选择了科学作为职业,精力充沛的青年人队伍。我将反复唱一首赞美歌,赞美在应用科学上我们已经取得的伟大成果,赞美你们即将带来的更大的进步。事实上,我们是在应用科学的时代,也是在这样一个应用科学的国度。如果说我现在是在不合时节地说话,那是错误的!恰像有人认为不开化的印第安人经济不丰富、生活不愉快一样,但我不这么想。事实上,开明国家的孩子是那样地喜欢玩“印第安人”游戏,这具有深刻的意味。
My dear friends, I am very pleased to see you all in front of me - a contingent of energetic young people who have chosen science as their profession. I will sing a praise song repeatedly, praising the great achievements we have made in applied science and praising you for the greater progress you are about to bring.
