美国语言学家萨丕尔指出,语言承载着文化,而绝大多数文化又寄予词汇之中。汉语与英语是两种截然不同的语言符号系统,我国中学生学习英语都是在掌握了一定母语的基础上进行的,汉语思维根深蒂固,导致学习者在学习过程中受到母语的极大干扰,在英语口头和书面表达中大量出现“汉语式英语”。因此,认真学习和研究英汉语言的差异,特别是两种语言在词汇上的差异,对提高英语词汇学习是非常有必要的。本人将在教学过程中发现的英汉词汇差异构成的学习干扰分为以下几个方面:
