突出铁谱诊断技术的特点，扼要阐明其科学性和实用性，以三个机务段的实例描述用好这一技术可以取得显著的技术经济效益，提高检修工作水平，为内燃机车行车安全和修制改革做贡献。围绕铁道部新近颁布的内燃机车段修规程，搞好修制改革要求采用诊断技术的精神，为在全路扩大铁谱技术成果，根据工作实践并针对现场开展铁谱诊断工作存在的问题，提出若干建议。
