常世江从小喜欢画画,在东北师范大学接受了系统的训练。当时他学的是师范类美术,国油版雕样样都有所涉猎。大学毕业后一段时间,常世江专门画过国画。后来他去天津美院进修,结识了在那里授课的王克举老师,便坚定了油画写生的创作道路。王克举时任中国人民大学美院油画系主任、教授,常世江追随他来到北京,先后参加了人大艺术学院硕士课程班和“写意精神”——风景写生与创作高研班的学习,获得了巨大的进步,绘画风格日益鲜明。常世江的绘画成功地将油画写生与国画写意结合起来,形成了一种介于西方表现主义和中国大写意之间的风格。尽管
