英国电脑设计专家经过反复研究制出了一种新型脑瘤扫描器,名叫爱密扫描器。这是自1895年发现Χ光以来,辐射学的又一大进步。 这种扫描器能把头骨里面的各种组织清楚地显示出来,使用也很方便。扫描时,患者可以舒适地躺在机器上,把头放在扫描器的扫描口内。扫描口的一旁有一支Χ光管,另一边有一排晶体探测器。那个光管射出扇形Χ光穿过脑部。将脑中组织所吸收的辐射情况,输入小型电脑里,在扫描器旋转后,把电脑分析出来的一大堆数字,完完全全地录在磁盘上,并马上转成图形,映在荧光屏上。这样便可摄制成照片。全部过程只用10分钟,而患者所受的剂量比一次普通的Χ光胸透所受的剂量少。用这种仪器可以检查出一般不容易检查出来的病灶;用它检查意外脑部受伤者,可以在20分钟内查出症状的所在。
