商会与公所、会馆同为近代商人团体组织,商会同它们之间的关系历来受研究者的重视。在诸多研究中,“传统与近代(现代)”乃是一种较为流行的研究范式。但笔者以为如果简单地套用这一范式来研究商会与公所、会馆之关系,那么我们自然视商会与公所会馆为一对传统与近代对立的典型范例,其潜在和必然的结论便是近代的商会与传统的行会存在本质的差别,商会取代公所、会馆是必然的历史结果。正如有的研究者所称“就组织特点而言,商会同公所和个别会馆为代表的传统
