INTRODUCTION There is a fundamental difficulty in detecting extremely weak optical signals because of the introduction of severe statistical fluctuations or “noise” in the detector due to the quantum nature of the light. To make this fluctuation less obvious, optical image detectors are required to have better ability to accumulate and store information. The human eye accumulates for 0.2 seconds on a video tube in a standard television system
