经过多年的育种研究实践,提出水稻超高产育种要取得成功,必须培育高光合速率的品种。反映在田间选择方法上,从苗期至成熟期以分蘖发生早、分蘖力和分蘖势强、叶色浓、叶片厚、叶片小穗子大、单株穗整齐度好、根系寿命长、植株不早衰、紧凑型或小杯型为形态指标,单株穗数和单穗重量为选择依据进行选择,用这种方法育成的超高产稻种“三优”在贵州表现良好,产量高达800kg/666,7m2以上。
