虚拟专用网络(Virtual Private Net-work,VPN)是建立在公共网络(如Inter-net)上的私有网络。VPN技术之所以引起广泛的兴趣和关注,是因为它可以用更低的成本提供更为广泛、安全、可靠和便捷的通讯方式。 最近,Cisco公司推出一款新产品—Cisco 1720接入路由器。它为中小企业提供了一个定制VPN的解决方案。Cisco 1720不仅仅是一个简单的路由器,它结合了路由器、DSU/CSU、ISDN网络终端、防火墙、VPN隧道服务器(本地网关)和加密等多种功能,在单一的产品中提供了全面的VPN接入解决方案。
