白先勇,台湾著名作家,1937年生于广西桂林,1961年毕业于台湾大学外文系,1965年旅居美国,任教于加州大学。出版短篇小说集《寂寞的十七岁》《台北人》《纽约客》,散文集《蓦然回首》,长篇小说《孽子》,自选集《青春念想》等。他的作品善于将西方现代文学的写作技巧融合到中国传统表现方式之中,大多描写新旧交替时代人物的故事和生活,富于历史兴衰和人世沧桑感。
Bai Xianyong, a famous Taiwanese writer, was born in Guilin, Guangxi Province in 1937, graduated from the Department of Foreign Languages of Taiwan University in 1961, lived in the United States in 1965, and taught at the University of California. His collection of short stories, “Lonely Seventeen,” “Taipei,” “New Yorker,” a collection of essays entitled “Looking Back,” “Novels” and “Youth Thoughts”. His works are good at merging the writing skills of Western modern literature into the traditional Chinese ways of expression. Most of his works depict the stories and lives of the characters in the old and the new, rich in historical prosperity and vicissitudes.
