磁铁石英岩选矿技术进展的重要标志是,要求精矿质量高,生产费用低。无球磨矿与球磨相比,由于无球磨矿没有球耗和简化了破碎一磨矿流程,所以生产费用低,精矿质量也高,因此也就有利于精矿的冶炼。但无球磨矿车间的建设投资大,磨机的单位生产率低,单位电耗高。不同矿床铁矿石的物质组成和物理性质差异很大,因此每个矿床的矿石要求采用的磨矿方法也不同。为了对球磨和无球磨矿进行经济比较,作者以北方采选公司3号选厂的球磨和无球磨矿工艺流程费用做为计算基础推出如下的关系式:
