Over the 25 years from 1967 to the present, Indonesia has approved more than 2,400 foreign investments with a total investment of 74 billion U.S. dollars. Among them, the major investors are Japan, with nearly 12 billion U.S. dollars, Hong Kong businessmen 5.5 billion U.S. dollars and Taiwan businessmen 3.9 billion U.S. dollars. In recent years, the ROK investment has also been relatively active. The establishment of industrial zones and bonded areas is an important means of promoting foreign investment in Indonesia. Indonesia has hundreds of industrial zones and 10 bonded areas. Prior to 1990, industrial zones or bonded zones were all founded by the government (industrial zone companies under the Ministry of Industry and Bonded Zone companies); in the future, the government allowed private capital to invest in industrial or bonded areas. Recently, the industrial zone has enjoyed a good momentum of development. It takes five years for the government-run industrial zone to attract projects that are generally privately owned
