宁蒗,国家级贫困县,人口23万。1998年10月份,先后共发生了5次地震,分别为5.3级、4.7级、5.3级。11月19日19:31分和19:38分相隔7分钟,县城及附近乡镇又发生5.0和6.2级强烈地震。地震涉及全县15个乡镇22万余人,县城受灾最为严重。县级机关、企事业单位房屋受损13.1万平方米。农村民房受损2.6万户182万平方米。全县395所学校3580间13.9万平方米校舍遭到破坏,80所学校校舍受损严重,部分校舍倒塌;部分水利、交通、邮电通讯和市政公共设施也受到不同程度的破坏。
Ninglang, a national poverty-stricken counties, population 230,000. In October 1998, a total of five earthquakes occurred successively, namely 5.3, 4.7 and 5.3 respectively. At 19:31 on November 19th and 19:38 minutes apart, there were another magnitude 5.0 and 6.2 earthquakes in the county seat and nearby towns. The earthquake involved more than 22,000 people in 15 towns and counties throughout the county, causing the worst hit in the county. County-level agencies, enterprises and institutions damaged 131,000 square meters of housing. Rural houses damaged 26,000 households 1.82 million square meters. Some 359 schools and 139,000 square meters of school buildings in 395 schools in the county were damaged. Some 80 schools were damaged and some of the school buildings collapsed. Some water conservancy, traffic, post and telecommunications and municipal public facilities were also damaged to varying degrees.
