Recent articles by Oski Landaw and Saarinen Siimes point out: It is now recognized that the timing and choice of feeding solid foods to babies have a significant impact on iron nutrition. It may well be far beyond the previous understanding. Small babies, most of the iron needed for growth are provided by the richer neonatal iron sockets. The absorption of food iron only play a supporting role. After four months, young babies, whose newborn iron sockets are exhausted, must have almost all their food from iron. The two phases of iron metabolism are consistent with the timing of adding complementary feeding to infants nowadays.
