1919年8月16日,北京女子高等师范学校的学生李超病逝。女学生体弱死于肺病,不是什么罕见的事情。稀罕的是,这桩普通的死亡事件竟然演变成了公共事件,全国知晓。李超死后不久,胡适收到一包她生前的书信,是朋友为她清理遗物时发现的。这些信稿已被李超的朋友分类编辑过,他们希望北大教授胡适对这位女学生的不幸辞世写点什么,以便在追悼会上宣读
On August 16, 1919, Li Chao, a student of the Beijing Women’s Normal Higher Education School, died. It is not uncommon for female students to die from lung disease. Rarely, this ordinary death event has even evolved into a public event that is known throughout the country. Shortly after Li died, Hu Shih received a packet of letters from her lifetime as a friend discovered when she cleaned up the relics. These letters were edited and edited by Li Chao’s friends who hoped Peking University professor Hu Shi would write something about the unfortunate death of the girl student to read at the memorial service
