The new modulator made of electro-optic polymer can be used to process infrared light power, making cable television transmission a reality. This modulator is being developed by California’s integrated photonic technology company. Although the latest models require half-wave switching voltages up to 20V, the researchers say the voltage can be halved through slight improvements in design and manufacturing processes.
