到香港这块祖国自己的土地上,走一走,看一看,是小平同志的遗愿。然而,在离香港回归祖国仅一百多天的时候,他老人家却因病与世长辞,多年的遗愿终未实现。山东省美术馆高级美术师蒋陈阡萌生了塑作邓小平铜像并争取将其运往回归后的香港的想法。1997年2月21日,小平逝世后的第二天,蒋陈阡就和同事窦全军开始了创作。他们废寝忘食地工作,四个多月来从未休过一天班,衣带渐宽终不悔。把对小平的崇敬和热爱,全部投入塑像的创作。他说,痛失香港的奇耻大辱已长达一个半世纪,是小平提出了“一国两制的伟大构

Jiang Chenqian, a senior artist at the Shandong Art Museum, gave birth to the idea of making a bronze statue of Deng Xiaoping and trying to transport it to Hong Kong after its return to China.
