INTRODUCTION Recently, a clear picture of the bone structure has been obtained. Compact bone is a composite that consists of a bone unit, an interstitial system, and an organic viscoelastic binder that bonds the two together. Ascenzi, Bonucci (1967) (1972) first isolated the bone units; later, Frasca et al. (1976) isolated them with the improved technique.
