Objective To understand the possible causes of non-use of condoms in people with HIV and to provide reference for carrying out targeted health promotion. Methods Using qualitative research methods, HIV-infected individuals who had been recruited in Yunnan Province for nearly six months were interviewed for in-depth interviews without condom use. Results A total of 22 people were interviewed, with an average age of 32.9 years. The survey found that although objectively condoms are not difficult to obtain, those with HIV may still have high-risk sexual behaviors due to lack of preparation beforehand, poor communication with their partners, fear of identity exposure, flu-likeness, lack of responsibility and pleasure seeking behavior. Conclusion There are high-risk sexual behaviors in HIV-infected people, and the reasons for this behavior are complex and diverse. On the one hand, reducing the subjective barriers to the use of condoms and, on the other hand, raising the awareness of those infected that the severity of the consequences of high-risk sexual behavior should contribute to the prevention of this behavior.
