龙海县九湖公社是我省荔枝的主产地,栽培历史千年,全社荔枝面积1.42万亩,21万多株(平均亩植14.6株),其中投产树1.21万亩,17.5万株,总产18.1万担。平均亩产为1495斤,株产103斤,产量占全省三分之一,为九湖社员重要收入之一,全社人均荔枝1982年364斤,1983年426斤,户收百担以上有376户。现有兰竹、乌叶、早红、绿荷包等10个栽培品种。
