在我們祖国辽闊的土地上有着丰富的陶瓷原料:瓷土和陶坭,也有色彩丰富的顏色釉料。四千多年来民间艺人利用它們所不断创造出精美的陶瓷用具,与人民的生活和感情紧密的结合起来。各地区根据不同的材料与用途,創造了不同的艺术風格。丰富的陶瓷艺术傳統及科学技术,通过民间艺人世代相傳,虽然在解放前曾一度低潮,或有些技艺失传,自全国解放后,在中国共产党英明的领导之下,全国的陶瓷事业很快得到了恢复,产量已远远超过了历史水平;从質量上说也在發展与提高中。这次全国工艺美术展覽会陶瓷部分展出的百花齐放、推陈出新的陶瓷器,就可以看到解放十年来所取得的偉大成就。
