北京大学的艺术教育有着悠久的传统,蔡元培先生在担任北京大学校长时,就大力提倡和实施美育与艺术教育。早在五四时期,蔡元培先生发起成立北京大学“画法研究会”、“音乐传习所”等,强调把美育列为国民教育的宗旨之一,并且规划了一幅全民艺术教育的蓝图。在我国现当代艺术教育历史中,徐悲鸿、刘天华、沈尹默、肖友梅、宗白华等艺术大师和著名学者都曾先后在北京大学执教。现设的北京大学艺术学学科,是于1997年成立的艺术学系基础上发展起来的。十余年来,北京大学艺术学系始终坚持“道”(人文内涵)与“技”(艺
Peking University has a long tradition of art education. When serving as the president of Peking University, Mr. Cai Yuanpei vigorously advocates and implements aesthetic education and arts education.
