Some studies have found that exposure to lead in car exhaust can cause an increase in blood lead (PbB). In the past decade, many countries have adopted measures to reduce lead exposure. The main move by Sweden in this area is to reduce the lead content of gasoline. This article reports the rapid and drastic reduction of PbB in Swedish children between 1978-84. The authors collected venous blood from 8 to 16 years old in the towns of Landskrona and Trelleborg in southern Sweden (with a population of over 30,000 each) from late May to early June of each year 1978-84. Students live in the above two towns or in the neighboring villages. A total of 1395 children were surveyed in the past few years. The distribution of children in both places is similar in gender and age. Landskrona has a lead scrap at 1 km from the town center
