马青山先生人到中年始执笔为书。他自言彼时心境不似从前激昂,若与诗歌文章相较,以笔墨为器,更能到达书写自身。因此而转入书法摹习。数年过去,俨然已成书法气象,书中意趣笔法,也由临摹进入自在洒脱境地。一时间,声名鹊起,令书界侧目。以至于人论其书法趣味而疏忽其作家本色。其实青山先生一直致力于诗歌创作,歌以咏志而达情。他以乡土诗歌出发,状写人情、物理,发现乡村中值得赞美的淳朴和诗意。他是上个世纪末期活跃于西部诗坛的重要诗人。作品中的素朴品质为人称道。西部诗人牛庆国评论其作品时说:“岁月的流转使诗人归于宁静。他在宁静中思考,并努力使自己的诗歌在宁静中
