Cefpirome is the fourth generation of a novel semisynthetic, broad-spectrum β-endocarpine cephalosporin with minimal concentration-dependent killing and a sustained post-antibiotic effect on Staphylococcus aureus. These pharmacodynamic characteristics suggest that the optimal dose should be such that the serum concentration of cefpirome is greater than the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) against infectious agents over most of the dosing interval,
