Introduction Thermal ionization detector, also known as nitrogen and phosphorus detector, is an important GC detection tool introduced by Cremer et al. In 1961. To date, all thermal ionization detectors have their thermal ionization sources made of alkali metal compounds. Therefore, it is often said that such detectors are alkali flame ionization detectors. Studies on this detector mechanism include the alkali atom evaporation of Kolb et al., Brazhnikov’s theory of alkali metal salt molecules evaporation, Olah’s theory of alkali metal atom catalysis, etc., always based on the presence of alkali metal elements. These observations explain a considerable portion of the experimental phenomena, but do not account for the experimental results of the non-alkali thermal ionization source we designed.
