1. by turns 轮流，交替
We did the work by turns. 我们轮流做这工作。
They laughed and cried by turns. 他们一时哭一时笑。
2. in turn 依次
They answered the teacher’s questions in turn. 他们依次回答老师的问题。
3. take one’s turn 轮班做
Everyone must take his turn to keep watch. 每个人都必须轮流值班。
4. turn against 转而反对
He turned against his old friends. 他与老朋友反目成仇了。
5. turn down
（1）拒不接受（采纳）
He turned down our invitation. 他拒绝了我们的邀请。
He tried to join the army but was turned down because of poor health. 他想参军，但因身体不好而被拒绝。
（2）关小（收音机等的音量）
The radio is pretty loud. Can you turn it down a little? 收音机声音太大了，能开小一点吗？

（1）交上来
Turn in your homework，please. 请把家庭作业交上来。
（2）向警方告发
He threatened to turn her in. 他威胁说要向警方告发她。
（3）上床睡觉
It’s late and I think I’ll turn in. 很迟了，我想该睡了。
7. turn into 成为，使成为，翻译
At a low temperature，water turns into ice. 水在低温时结成冰。
Can you turn the letter into English? 你能把这封信译成英语吗？
8. turn off 关掉（收音机、电灯、水龙头等）
I can’t turn off the tap. 我无法把龙头关上。
The tap won’t turn off. 这龙头关不上。
The boy turned off the light and went to bed. 这男孩关了灯就上床睡觉了。
