To observe the changes of peripheral blood lymphocyte sister chromatid exchange (SCE) in patients with head and neck cancer and its clinical significance, peripheral blood lymphocyte SCE was detected in 37 patients with head and neck cancer. The results showed that the SCE rate of peripheral blood lymphocytes in head and neck cancer patients was higher than that in the control group (P<0.01). The SCE rate was not related to the clinical stage of head and neck cancer (P>0.05). It suggests that the chromosomal DNA is impaired and the ability of repair is reduced in head and neck cancer patients. Detection of SCE in peripheral blood lymphocytes has clinical significance for the diagnosis of head and neck cancer.
