8月17日,也就是藏历6月30日,拉萨哲蚌寺举办了盛大的展佛活动,标志着2012拉萨雪顿节正式拉开帷幕。在藏语中,“雪”是“酸奶”的意思,“顿”是“宴”的意思,雪顿节就是吃酸奶的节日,是仅次于藏历新年的又一盛大传统节日,起源于公元11世纪中叶,最早是一种宗教节日,是老百姓用酸奶对寺院行长净、夏安居之事后解禁僧人的敬奉。17世纪下半叶,雪顿节逐渐演变成以藏戏汇演和展佛为主、文娱与宗教相结合的重要节日,所以又称为藏戏节、展佛节。
