I. INTRODUCTION We have previously described a fluorescent bronchoscopy system for detecting small pulmonary tumors using the fluorescence generated by a tumor-specific compound called hematoporphyrin induction (HpD). After intravenous injection of this compound, it is selectively absorbed by malignant tumors. Three days later, the bronchus was examined with a flexible fiberoptic bronchoscope.
