日本通产省及工业技术院决定，从1997年起，将与东南亚国家联盟（ASEAN）各国共同开发国际标准。在具体项目方面，准备提出有关不同地域之汽车涂料耐气候性和多种计算机输入语言方面的标准，同时也将研究已经制定但不切实用的建筑材料、锅炉、压力容器等的国际标准之改善问题。
Japan’s MITI and the Industrial Technology Institute have decided that since 1997, they will jointly develop international standards with the countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). On specific projects, preparation is to be made on standards for weatherability and computerized languages for automotive coatings in various geographical locations, as well as on improvements in international standards for already-developed but impractical building materials, boilers, pressure vessels and the like problem.
