1962年8月6日,毛泽东在中央北戴河会议上发表了著名的关于阶级、形势、矛盾问题的重要讲话。在谈到陕西户县三个农民党员写的《当前形势怀感》(亦称《一叶知秋》)时,他严厉批评了这封来信,说:“一叶知秋,也可以知冬,更重要的是知春、知夏……。任何一个阶级都讲自己有希望,户县城关公社写信的同志也讲希望,他们讲单干希望……”。最后毛泽东问:
