英国第三大移动通信企业 Orange 一向是欧美日几个大电信商竞夺的目标。法国电信、荷兰的 KPN Telecom、美国的MCI WorldCom、西班牙的 Tekfonica、芬兰的 Sonera,甚至日本的 NTT DoCoMo,都曾对它虎视耽耽。英国的第三代移动通讯(3G)牌照拍卖,成为 Orange 争夺战全面爆发的导火线。法国电信退出竞争剧烈的3G 拍卖会后,“抓不到鱼就抓渔夫”,以432亿欧元的高价购得已有3G 牌照在手的 Orange,成为欧洲第二大移动电话集团,与英国沃达丰(Vodafone)两强并立。Orange 在全球7个国家和地区经营移动通讯业务,包括香港和以色列。法国电信则拥有法国的无线网络,并且控制着比利时、荷兰、丹麦和部分东欧国家的经营商。合并后的无线业务约有2100万个订户,到年底将增至3000万人,仅次于沃达丰的5000万人。
Orange, the third largest mobile communications company in the UK, has always been the target of several major telecommunications operators in Europe, the United States and Japan. France Telecom, KPN Telecom in the Netherlands, MCI WorldCom in the United States, Tekfonica in Spain, Sonera in Finland, and even Japan’s NTT DoCoMo have been slowing it down. Britain’s third-generation mobile communications (3G) license auction, Orange Fire as the full launch of the fuse. France Telecom to withdraw from the fierce competition 3G auction, “catch the fish catch the fisherman”, for a high of 43.2 billion euros have purchased 3G licenses in hand Orange, Europe’s second largest mobile phone group, and the British Vodafone (Vodafone) two strong side by side. Orange operates mobile communications in seven countries around the world, including Hong Kong and Israel. France Telecom owns France’s wireless network and controls operators in Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark and parts of Eastern Europe. The combined wireless business, with some 21 million subscribers, will grow to 30 million by the end of the year, second only to 50 million from Vodafone.
