After years of diplomatic efforts by my government, Hong Kong will finally be able to return to the motherland in 1997. However, why did China fail to recover Hong Kong after the victory of the Anti-Japanese War? On August 15, 1945, Japan announced the unconditional surrender. Just as the Chinese people celebrated the victory, U.S. President Truman issued General Order No. 1 and severed the respective areas of the Confederate conquest. According to this order, all Japanese troops in the territory of the Republic of China except Manchuria and all Japanese troops in Taiwan and the French Indochina area north of the 16th parallel at latitude north must be attacked by Chiang Kai-shek, commander of the China theater
