辅酶Q_(10)都称之为泛醌(ubiquinone),广泛存在于动植物细胞内,尤以细胞线粒体内膜嵴处居多。位于电子传导系的黄素蛋白质同非血红素铁、细胞色素系之间,为细胞能量产生系统的一部分。 已知胰岛素的最初形式为胰岛素原,由胰岛β细胞的颗粒内质网合成,在高尔基氏体内呈颗粒形。由细胞内释出时转变为胰岛素。此种合成、转运和释放过程必需能量,部分由线粒体电子传导源提供。故β细胞线粒体的辅酶Q_(10)不足可造成ATP的匮乏,导致胰岛素合成和分泌减少。
