Eliseo Guallar, a professor of epidemiology and medicine at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore, found that drinking 3 to 5 cups of coffee per day may reduce arterial occlusion, according to the WebM D Medical News (2015-03-21) Risk, that is, can reduce the risk of heart failure. Professor Guallar believes the study fails to show a direct causal relationship between coffee and lowering of calcium in arteries, but shows a very strong correlation between these factors. Although the cause of this association is unknown, researchers speculate that coffee may reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes, which is a risk factor for atherosclerosis.
