The Central CPC Committee’s Department of Organization confirmed that Shen Weichen， CPC Chief and Vice Chairman of China Association for Science and Technology （CAST）， was removed from his posts for his serious violation against the CPC rules and laws. This made Shen the first minister-level governmental official that was sanctioned from the posts placed under investigation in this year.
Shen was transferred to Beijing for work more than three years ago. His violations against laws were said to have happened in Shanxi， where he had worked for a long time as the Head of the Propaganda Department of Shanxi Provincial CPC Committee and Secretary of the CPC Committee at Taiyuan， Shanxi. Locals described his merits with three sentences： “having sold a lot of land， produced a TV series and slept with a lot of women”. The TV series here referred to Qiao’s Compound， which used to be very popular in China. And Shen was hooked by the discipline inspection department for his sell- ing land and sleeping with women.
Shen began his political career in 1975. In 1989 he was the director of Shanxi Municipal Sports Committee. From 1994， he began to work in Jinzhong， Shanxi and climbed to the top position – the CPC Chief of this city.
In January 2006， Shen Weichen was appointed CPC Chief of Taiyuan， Shanxi. In 2010， he moved to Beijing as the Deputy Director of Central CPC Committee’s Propaganda Department. In June 2013， he was appointed vice chairman of CAST to take charge of the non-tech affairs of this organization.
It is said that he fell into problems for the same reason with Jin Daoming， former vice president of Shanxi Provincial People’s Congress– the embezzlement and corruption in Shanxi. Before Shen Weichen’s fall， several governmental officials in Shanxi were arrested. They were all responsible for the land development and manager under Shen Weichen when he was the CPC Chief of Taiyuan.
