Motorenfabrik Hatz, a German engine manufacturer, used a mechanism on the Supra single-cylinder engines of 272, 273, 517 and 667 mL displacement to reliably monitor the operation of the air cleaner. The company said that for single-cylinder engines, it is unsatisfactory to use an average intake vacuum to drive the air cleaner condition indicator, and the current mechanical indicator on the market is regulated to a sensitivity range.
