This study investigated the efficacy and performance of unsealed and anodized aluminum samples sealed in deionized boiling water. The samples were placed on the test bed at the roof of the CENLM building in Madrid and exposed to the typical urban atmosphere. Both samples were visually observed, and were evaluated by the traditional sealing quality control test and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Over time, the samples under investigation underwent automatic sealing, gradually masking the significant influence of the original sealing in boiling water, eventually resulting in a comparison of the original unsealed sample The same performance of the sealed samples. After 17 years of exposure to the atmosphere, all the oxide films generally exceeded the sealing quality requirements of the standard test.
