湖北省填土筑坝的历史,应自江汉平原区修筑的堤防开始,其中如荆江大堤实际上是在冲积层上建筑的均质土坝。解放以来,全省共完成的土坝有:库容在500万至1000万立方米的383座;1000万至1亿立方米的102座;1亿立方米以上的24座(其中包括尚未全部竣工的6座)。
