Objective To investigate the effect of prenatal body mass index on head delivery outcome in pregnant women. Methods A total of 1898 pregnant women were selected as study subjects and divided into 3 groups according to body mass index during different stages of pregnancy growth. Data of 3 groups were compared. Results The rates of cesarean section, giant macrosomia, and the length of labor were both higher in overweight group and overweight group during pregnancy than those in normal group. The incidence of asphyxia of newborns in overweight group was higher than that of normal group. Conclusion The body mass index before pregnancy and the increase of body mass index during pregnancy have an impact on the outcome of head delivery.
