Apergis and Payne (2009) put forward four hypotheses about energy consumption and economic development: growth hypothesis, protective hypothesis, feedback hypothesis and neutral hypothesis. They believe that there exists a gap between energy consumption and economic growth in different countries and societies One-way causality, two-way causal relationship or weak correlation. The Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) hypothesis proposed by Grossman and Krueger (1991) suggests that there is an inverted U-shaped relationship between environmental pollution and economic growth. Based on the above hypothesis, this paper takes the relationship between energy consumption, environmental pollution and economic growth into a whole framework for static theoretical analysis. Using the panel data of provincial administrative units in the eastern, central and western regions of China The dynamic panel model empirically studies the dynamic relationships among the three regions. The results show that: (1) The level of economic development in the eastern part of China has crossed the inflection point of the ECK curve and is in the second and third stages of the EKC curve. However, the economic development in the central and western regions of China is still in the first phase of the EKC curve. (2) the economic growth in the eastern part of our country is gradually getting rid of its dependence on energy, and energy consumption is still an important driving force for economic growth in the central and western regions; (3) the transformation of the mode of economic development has been more markedly achieved in the western region The Leaping Development of Western Economy.
