According to the literature, both from the Sui Dynasty to the Ming and Qing dynasties, or from the beginning of the Republic of China to the founding of new China, the canal can be described as “merchants 骈 set, the goods radiate extraction, public and private cashier, similar to the city; Day and night ”is also. A handful of figures highlight the historic importance of the canal. However, with the advent of other modern means of transport, the canal’s status as a transport north and south diminishes. In the fifties and sixties of this century, Chengbei became the key area for industrial development in Hangzhou. A large number of printing and dyeing, pharmaceutical and paper-making enterprises concentrated here, and the canal pollution was getting worse. Even to the “passers-by canal, need to cover up” situation. After more than 1,000 years of vicissitudes of life, the Grand Canal has finally completed its historic mission and has sadly withdrawn. Today, the Grand Canal, as a dual identity of culture and tourism, has once again taken the stage with a new attitude. After remediation of the Grand Canal has been reborn as a new landscape. I believe in the new stage, the Grand Canal will write a more beautiful poetry chapter.
