[Associated Press, Atlanta, Georgia, January 10, 1981] If a study can be passed at a health officials meeting at the National Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, TB patients in the United States will reduce their standard treatment regimen by 3 months. Closed on January 11, 40 health leaders at the 2-day meeting developed a pilot program to see if 6 months of chemotherapy outperformed conventional 9-month therapy. Tuberculosis patients generally use two drugs, namely isoniazid and rifampicin treatment. The proposed 6-month regimen will increase pyrazinamide for the first 2 months and isoniazid and rifampicin for the next 4 months.
