郑哲敏出生于1924年9月,祖籍是浙江省鄞县。1947年在清华大学机械系毕业,留校任教一年后于1948年赴美国加州理工学院机械系攻读研究生。1949年获硕士学位。1952年在钱学森的指导下,他获得了博士学位。1949年至1954年,郑哲敏在加州理工学院机械系任助教和水动力学实验室研究工程师,研究工作以飞行器热应力和振动为主,同时还教授理论力学、材料力学和应用数学等课程。1955年郑哲敏回国后,即在中国科学院力学研究所工作,1958年以前,他担任力学所弹性组组长,主攻
Zheng Zhemin was born in September 1924, his ancestral home is Yin County, Zhejiang Province. Graduated from Tsinghua University in 1947, after leaving school for a year, he went to the California Institute of Technology in 1948 to pursue graduate study in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. In 1949 a master’s degree. In 1952 under the guidance of Qian Xuesen, he received a doctorate. From 1949 to 1954, Zheng Zhemin worked as a teaching assistant and a hydrodynamic laboratory engineer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Caltech. His research work focused on thermal stress and vibration of aircraft. He also taught courses in theoretical mechanics, materials mechanics and applied mathematics. After Zheng Zhemin returned to China in 1955, he worked in Institute of Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Prior to 1958, he served as head of the Elastic Group of Mechanics
