In the history of the American historiography, the early history of the United States is a well-established field of research. However, few scholars pay much attention to the history of Chinese American historians except for some major historical events and historical figures. Only the situation has changed slightly in recent years. In terms of time span, the early history accounts for more than half of the entire American history. From an important point of view, the early history not only covered the founding period of the United States, but also covered the era of the U.S. statehood and initial prosperity. Therefore, to truly understand the United States and this country, to grasp the context of the history of the United States, we must first conduct a systematic and in-depth study on the early history of the United States. In view of this, with the joint efforts of Chinese and American scholars, the “International Symposium on Early American History (1600-1877) in a Global Perspective” was successfully held in Tianjin in May 2007. After the conference, with the help of the Chinese early American history expert and Professor Li Jianming, professor of history at Peking University, some of the invited experts and some scholars who have some studies in the field of early history in the United States, The current situation, what kind of early American history China needs, whether Chinese scholars can make their own contributions in the early history of the United States, and some empirical questions in the early history of the United States, to express their views and exchange ideas. Earlier, we published a compilation of reports on the international academic conference. The publication hopes that through this set of writing reviews, it will add another force to the study of early history of the United States in China. It is hoped that more and more Chinese scholars will devote themselves to the study of the early history of the United States and will do so in this important historical field Outstanding Academic Contributions to Chinese Scholars. It is for hope.
