[World Nuclear News Web site March 18, 2015] General Atomics and Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL) recently released two important findings. These results mean that researchers have made major breakthroughs in controlling potentially damaging thermal outbreaks in fusion reactors. Research is being carried out at the DIII-D National Fusion Facility in San Diego operated by General Atomics. General Atomics said the new result is a key step in predicting and controlling thermal outbursts in future fusion facilities. This work was supported by the DOE Science Bureau.
