《金瓶梅》书名独特的组合方式以及不同的解读视角使其生发出多重隐含意义。缘于英汉语间的差异,译者在书名英译上不得不将其化隐为显,化多重为单一。翻译过程中不同译者的身份特征、翻译目的以及读者意识等因素对其所采取的翻译策略有着重要的影响。通过对这些深层因素的比较分析,既可以看出《金瓶梅》不同英译书名的成因,又可进一步突出译者在翻译过程中的主体地位。
The unique combination of the title of “Jin Ping Mei” and its different interpretations give rise to multiple implication. Due to the differences between English and Chinese, the translator had to change its title into English in the English translation of the title. The factors such as the identity, translating purpose and reader’s awareness of different translators in translation process have an important influence on the translation strategy. Through the comparative analysis of these deep factors, we can not only find out the causes of different English translation titles in “Jin Ping Mei”, but also further highlight the translator’s dominant position in the process of translation.
