The inaugurating meeting and the first assembly of China Editolugy Society of Science Periodicals were held in Beijingon March 4—7,1987.Participated in the meeting were leaders of the Government Departments,Scientific and Technolog-ical Communities and 188 representatives from the scientific and technological editors in the fields of natural sciences aswell as technological,agricultural,and medical sciences,all over the country.The editoral work of scientific and technological journals in China has had a history of more than a hundred years.Atpresent,2400 scientific and technical journals in China have a troop of more than 15000 editors in charge.The establish-ment of the Society is expected to help upgrade the competence and professional ability of the present editors,and raise the
